One-on-One Coaching - $60/hr

Is your stand-up feeling stale?

Having difficulty reaching the next level?

Worried that you’ve lost that comic spark?

With one-on-one coaching, I’ll help you identify what’s working in your act and – more importantly – what’s holding you back. With specific, personalized feedback, these coaching sessions will help you recapture the joy of stand-up and bust out of your slump.

Unlike comedy classes where instructors focus on the basics and are forced to split their attention amongst multiple students, my one-on-one coaching is all about providing personalized feedback with insight specific to your act and your needs. While most classes focus on writing your first five minutes, these sessions are about what happens next: getting good.

The structure and subjects of each coaching sessions will vary based on your individual interests and needs, but topics covered might include:

  • Joke tweaking (editing, reframing, and tagging existing jokes)

  • Premise-mining (finding new subjects and angles that are authentic to your point of view)

  • Persona (the core perspective that threads your jokes together)

  • Tape Review (an in-person version of the “Tape Review” offering below)

  • General stand-up workflow/approach (how to use your time on- & off-stage efficiently and effectively to achieve your goals)

  • Show Producing (venue set-up, marketing, lineup curation, etc)

*Please Note: This service is for comics who have performed at least 30+ times. If you’re still just getting your feet wet, this really won’t be of much value to you.*

Tape Reviews - $30

Are your booking inquiries being ignored or flat-out rejected?

Does sending a tape give you an anxiety attack?

Unsure how to stand out from all the other comics jockeying for time?

With my in-depth tape reviews, I’ll help you discover how to:

  • Identify the “value” you bring to a show

  • Better showcase said “value” in a 5 minute tape

  • Eliminate weak spots, momentum-killers, and character inconsistencies that distract from your tape’s larger purpose: landing you more shows

Tape reviews cover:

  • Your opener (most important joke on your tape)

  • Your closer (most important joke in your act)

  • Joke construction (how to get stronger laughs from your jokes)

  • Tag suggestions (how to get longer laughs from your jokes)

  • Persona (how the audience sees you)

  • Booker perspective (what you add to a show)

*Please Note: This service is for comics who have performed at least 30+ times. If you’re still just getting your feet wet, this really won’t be of much value to you.*

How It Works:

  1. You submit a 5-minute tape via email to 618comedy@gmail.com. If you have specific questions, you can add these in the body of the email.

  2. You Venmo a deposit of $15 to @kevin-seefried.

  3. Within 14 days, I’ll send back a 1-2 page document of in-depth notes, observations, edits, suggestions, etc.

  4. Upon receipt of your notes, you can Venmo your remaining payment of $15 to @kevin-seefried.

  5. If you have follow-up questions or need clarification on any of the notes, I offer a complimentary 10 minute follow-up via phone. This follow-up must take place within the 48 hours after you’ve received your notes.

  6. You get back to work and go get yourself a killer tape!

***IMPORTANT: Purchasing a tape review does not guarantee stage time at Batting Cage Comedy or any other show.***

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Kevin Seefried is a stand-up comic, writer, and award-winning producer who has spent the last decade performing at clubs, independent shows, and even — one time — inside a Potbelly Sandwich Shop. In addition to being featured on Sirius XM, his stand-up has led to appearances at the the Laughing Skull, Brooklyn, Boston, and Underground Comedy Festivals, amongst others. He also performed at the Kennedy Center as part of the 2019 REACH Opening Festival. In 2022, Kevin debuted his solo stand-up show, “Mad About Me,” which received the Producers’ Award for its successful run at the Elgin Fringe.

Kevin books and produces the popular weekly stand-up show “Batting Cage Comedy” at Kelly’s Irish Times in Washington, DC and has served as the booker for Don’t Tell Comedy’s DC Chapter since 2019. He also co-founded “The Mendoza Line,” a popular Boston stand-up showcase named “Best Live Comedy” by the Boston A-List back in 2014.

Outside of stand-up, Kevin is an accomplished copywriter who has written for talent such as Ana Gasteyer, Joe Lo Truglio, Chris Hardwick, Laverne Cox, Rodney Harrison, Chris Simms, and Kyle Richards.

If – for some reason – you’re one of those people who values “degrees,” in 2020 Kevin graduated from Long Island University - Brooklyn’s TV Writers Studio program with an MFA in Writing and Producing for Television, which pairs nicely with his equally-unhelpful-on-a-resume BA in Writing for Film and Television from Emerson College.
